Golf BlueMotion available now for € 21,650

Although the “BlueMotion” label that goes on the environmentally friendly Volkswagen cars is mostly associated with the VW Polo, the BlueMotion family is expanding rapidly across the passenger vehicles range.
The domestic price of the 2nd generation Golf BlueMotion goes from € 21,650 for the 1.6TDI.

Now with the new common rail TDI engines, recovery of braking energy, a Stop-Start system and the modified aerodynamics, the current breed of Golfs and Passats are no less worthy of the BlueMotion badge than Polo was back in 2006 when it demonstrated that it could have traveled a 100 km route using just 3.9 litres of fuel.

A wide range of technological improvements of the New Polo BlueMotion enabled the additional 0.6 litres saving on every 100 kilometres travelled in the combined test cycle. Considerably larger and heavier Golf BlueMotion now offers better fuel economy by 10 decilitres, compared to the original Polo BlueMotion’s.

The first Golf BlueMotion was delivered to its owner in mid October, but the customers would have to wait until the spring of 2010 for their New Polo BlueMotion cars. The domestic price of the 2nd generation Golf BlueMotion starts from € 21,650 and it comes with the strong, but economical 1.6TDI engine outputting 77 kW (measured at the crankshaft).

The new Golf BlueMotion is one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its class. Its theoretical range is 1,447 kilometres, with a 55 litre tank. Hypothetically speaking, a driver on the journey from Hanover to Monte Carlo could cover a 1,260 kilometres long journey spending just 51 Euros for fuel! On a 100 kilometre basis that represents just 4.00 Euros.

The foundation of the low fuel consumption and emissions of 99 grams of CO2 per kilometre is VW’s TDI engine built using common rail technology and applying the modified engine management software and reduced idling speed.

A gear-shift indicator integrated in the instrument cluster shows the most energy-efficient gear for the current driving conditions. Other BlueMotion features include recovery of braking energy (regenerative braking), a Stop-Start system, low rolling resistance tyres, especially lightweight and aerodynamic wheels styled according to the specific version, lowered suspension as well as sporty design modifications and a customised interior.
